Boulder County CareConnect Fix-It Program

The Fix-it Program has been providing free of charge minor home repairs to seniors and adults with disabilities for over 30 years. The Fix-It program's goal is to decrease the risk of falls in and around the home. Our experienced volunteer Fix-It team provides free of charge minor home repairs,grab bar installation, yard maintenance and snow removal.

No-cost or low-cost services to low-income, elderly and people with disabilities. Home Maintenance & Repair performs mobility, accessibility and safety improvements such as ramps, railings, grab bars, roll-in showers, electrical, heating and plumbing repairs.  Homes of 100-plus seniors are painted through the free Paint-A-Thon annually.  HUD-approved Housing Counseling provides no- or low-cost counseling on topics from reverse mortgages to home buying to foreclosure. Colorado State Veterans Homes

The Colorado Department of Human Services operates State Veterans Homes in Aurora, Florence, Monte Vista/Homelake and Rifle. The State Veterans Home in Walsenburg is operated by a local hospital district. Colorado State Veterans Homes provide long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, memory care, short-term stays and hospice/end-of-life services. In addition, assisted living-like cottages are available in Monte Vista/Homelake. Eligible individuals are honorably discharged veterans, veterans' spouses and Gold-Star Parents.

The Handyman Program

This program operates out of Denver and Ft. Collins. This program provides minor home repair and safety services to limited and low-income seniors. Volunteer handymen and women perform simple home repairs and home maintenance jobs such as installing grab bars and handrails to reduce safety hazards and prevent falls and injuries in their homes. The Handyman Program helps Colorado seniors stay safe in their own homes for as long as possible.

Many organizations throughout the state offer low interest loans and/or grants for home rehabilitation, emergency repairs, weatherization, or accessibility modifications. Most programs are area-specific and your home must be located within their parameters to be eligible. The HERO Alliance cannot guarantee eligibility or fund availability. Visit this website (which is the Medicare site) and assess the performance of the state's 225 nursing homes. People can see quality information such as how many beds are available in the facility, the latest state nursing home inspections results, and how many registered nurses and doctors are on staff. This site is part of the Nursing Home Quality Initiative, an effort of the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Colorado Foundation for Medical Care, Colorado's Quality Improvement Organization for Medicare. This is a campaign to improve the quality of care in nursing homes by publicly reporting quality measures on every Medicare certified nursing home in the state.
